As textile structural composite performs, 3-D fabrics are applied broadly in many fields such as aviation, spaceflight, automobile, and ship etc. because of its low weight, good integrality, nice shapeable ability, and excellent mechanical performance. However, as to the manufacture of 3-D fabrics, the technique is difficult, the price is high, the output is low, and sometimes it cannot satisfy the demand of composites structure very well. So how to weave 3-D integrated fabrics becomes one of the most important tasks in composites field.The weaving techniques of 3-D fabrics develop quickly. Now there gradually appear many weaving methods and 3-D looms in the world, but most of them are manual or half automatic, and the quality is difficult to guarantee. Along with the development of computer, the automatism in 3-D fabric weaving gained much progress, but there is still large distance compared to complete automatism and continuous production.This thesis is about the development and control of 3-D Multi-rapier Loom. Its main content is listed below:(1) The development of 3-D Multi-rapier Loom.Five primary motions in the loom: shedding motion, picking motion, beating-up motion, let-off motion and take-up motion. It is the first attempt to use multi-eye heddles in shedding motion; a group of rapiers (1-11) picking at the same time so that several wefts can be delivered one time, working efficiency is much improved. Beating-up motion is carried out by metallic reed driven by cylinder, so it is powerful and stable, step-by-step motor drives the temple to lead the fabric apart from fell.(2) The driving system of the 3-D Multi-rapier Loom.The loom is simply and dependable because of pneumatic driving system. Shedding motion, picking motion and beating-up motion are all driven by cylinders of different model, which is chosen by specified demand and condition of motions. The control element is electromagnetic valve, which is easy to realize the associated control of electricity and gas. Besides, there is gas power system and other assistant element. All of them compose the pneumatic driven system of 3-D Multi-rapierLoom.(3) CAD/CAM system of the 3-D Multi-rapier Loom.The design, profile modeling and management of 3-D fabric can be gained from this system. Its function is universal, its interface is friendly and the operation is simply. The core of CAD is computer- aided design and profile modeling of 3-D fabrics' interlaced discipline. The core of CAM is that computer transmits signal to loom to check and control the weaving process via I/O card located in ISA slot.(4) The weaving of 3-D fabric.Including the control of weaving process, the design and adjustment of weaving technique, the arisen problems and their settlements etc.In virtue of the development of 3-D Multi-rapier Loom and the design of CAD/CAM system, the weaving of 3-D fabric gains automatic production and concentrative management. The research work promoted the manufacture of textile structural composite.
