The quality of green sand is one of the important factors which effected casting quality. At present, green sand foundry is the primary method of casting production, so it is significant for improving casting quality and social productivity of labor to study fast testing system of green sand quality parameter. In the paper, the present study situation and development tendency of the fast testing technique of green sand quality parameter are expounded, and the developing course, the principle and the application in the foundry of artificial neural network (ANN) are expatiated. On the basis of double power energizing method, a movable fast testing system applied in green sand quality parameter is developed in virtue of ANN technique. The system, working in mode of hand or automation, is composed of air compressor, making sample machine, single-chip-computer and PC etc. The making sample machine includes five baric components and accessorial components etc, and the course of its working includes making sample, testing permeability and testing synthetical strength etc. On the core of 80C196KC, the single-chip-computer is extended for program store, data store, I/O interface circuit and analog signals amplifier etc. Automatic making sample and testing can be accomplished under the control of single-chip-computer. To solve the calculative problem of the nonlinear relationship, the ANN technique is adopted, and the administrant program and the calculative program of ANN are designed by VC++6.0. To ensure the credible exchange of information, communication between PC and single-chip-computer is realized on the basis of RS-232 agreement. The working course of the testing system can be described as follows: After the testing is finished by single-chip-computer, all the primal information parameters (namely, compressibility, temperature, alternating-current conductance, direct-current conductance, the change of direct-current conduct-ance) are transmitted to PC. When all the data are received, the ANN program is transferred and moisture, available clay content can be calculated instantly, then the results are transmitted to single-chip-computer to be printed out. At the same time, the results are saved to data-base of PC for analysis and query.
