In order to assess the fesibility of 1C reactor treating swine wastewater, we carried out a lab scale experiment in a 100L 1C reactor which was designed by ourselves. We invertigated on the treating effects of 1C reactor with and without insulation, based on which we compared it to a UASB reactor under the condition of different influent COD concentration . The results of the experiments show that:1. Temperature has significant influence on the start-up and running of the IC reactor. When IC reactor was run for 85 days with ambient temperature which ranges between 25℃ and 35℃, internal circulation did not occur. But when it was run with 35℃ insulation, internal circulation appeared on the 23rd day. And internal circulation stopped right at the day when we shut off insulation and the temperature fell to about 15 ℃.2. In the experiment, we articifically added gaseous nitrogen to test the minimal amount of gas needed to cause internal circulation inside the IC reactor whose results illustrate that when HRT was 2 days and treating wastewater with COD concentration lower than 3000vmg/L, the gas yield was too small to cause internal circulation of IC reactor and thus the IC's characteristic of treating high load wastewater well can not be fully embodied.3. Although internal circulation of OC did not occur when insulation was not applied and the influent COD concentration was higher than 5000mg/L, the IC reactor behaved a litter bit better than the UASB. When VLR was 4.0kgCOD/ Cm3.d) and the influent concentration of COD was 4785 \ 2713mg/L, the effluent concentration of the IC reactor and the UASB were 1635\971mg/L and 1904+-868.8mg/L, and their removing rates were 55.4\26.8% and 45.8\22.6% respectively.4. With 35 ℃ insulation and in a certain range of loading, increasing the VLR did good to cause internal circulation. The effect of circulation was the best in this experiment when the VLR was 5.73kgCOD/(m3.d). It could treat wastewater with influent COD concentration of 18086mg/L to that with COD concentration of 4976mg/L and its COD removing rate was 72.46%.5. Whether insulation or not, the IC reactor can not remove NH4+-N, TKN and TP well.
