Foamed aluminum is a new functional material developed recently. Now the study of foamed aluminum is quite deep and has applied to some fields overseas. But the study of this material is deficient in our country. According to this actuality, undermentioned studies were carried out. Strength of foamed aluminum is lower than compact Al because of holes. A new composite material was made by penetrating viscoelastic materials in the holes of foamed aluminum and compared with foamed aluminum. It indicated that the strength of composite material increased and the impactive and damping properties increased remarkably. It's applied in the shock absorption of gears, damping ring made of foamed aluminum. The mechanical model of gear and damping ring system was established and made theoretical analysis to show it's excellence comparing traditional materials of damping ring. At last we imitated the bumper and worktable of machine tools made of foamed aluminum using ANSYS software to indicate their superiority.
