Copper staves is a new kind of smelter cooling equipment developed in recent years, with characteristics of high cooling efficiency and long life-span. Combined with the manufacture of copper staves, key problems of deep-hole and slot hole drilling are studied systematic in this paper, and a special system from process, tools and machining facilities used in copper staves deep-hole drilling is developed.Based on structure characteristics of copper staves and the machining performance of Purple copper, the scheme of the deep-hole drilling based on low frequency axial cutting technology and BTA deep-hole drilling is suggested; the theoretic analysis of the vibrating drilling theory, cutting tool characteristics as well as chip break characteristic is processed, key problems in appropriative cutting tools are discussed; the distribution structure is formed; a kind of vibrating drilling vibration headstock with cutting tool rotated is designed; design techniques and principles of hydraulic system and movable worktable is put forward.Because of the special requirement in slot hole machining, the force status of BTA tools is analyzed systematically in this paper, the tool design principles is suggested, three kinds of tool design principles used to resolve slot and hole machining problems are given, and the homologous tool design is accomplished. Experiments show that the design idea is appropriate and can satisfy demands in slot hole machining.The centric line deflection problem in deep-hole drilling is mainly researched not only in theory but also in experiment; two theoretical models, namely the centric line deflection aroused by the bar self-weight and gap of the support of glove, are established. Models are proved to be correct by mass of experiments and the conclusion is achieved that the bar self-weight and gap of the support of glove are main aspects that arouse the centric line deflection, which has a great reference value in practice production.Based on the analysis of slot hole machining process, the control system of the equipment is analyzed particularly, radio between vibration frequency and the work speed appropriative control apparatus is designed, and the integrated slot hole machining equipment is developed. This equipment has been used in enterprises successfully. Production practice shows that this equipment is correct in design idea, appropriate in structure, high in frequency, strong in stability, and resolve difficulties in production.
