| The manufacturing technology is developing with high speed, high accuracy, flexibility and integration at present, but traditional numerical control system is already very difficult to meet the end users' need of secondary development. New numerical control system—Open numerical control system has met the need of this development.This paper analyses the drawback existing in traditional numerical control system, puts forward the necessity to research open numerical control system and narrates the actuality and trend of it. The thesis expounds the meaning, characteristics, function of the open numerical control system. The levels of open numerical control system and its module are explicitly studied in the paper. The open numerical control system based on IPC is analysed and PC connecting NC, PC embeding NC, sport controller+ PC, full software NC etc. are respectively narrated. According to the comparative result of above four types and the request of alteration of multi-functional CNC milling machine, this paper finally choose sport controller+ PC type. This discourse sets up the open numerical control system based on Yanxiang EEAON IPC and GT-400- SV, besides, the system has two microprocessors—principal and subordinate microprocessor structure. The system realizes the communication between the principal and subordinate processors through ISA bus, the floor processor realizes real-time control (such as The outline construction process, interpolation calculation, the servocontrol, knife radius and screw-pitch compensation) and connects with exterior parts. The upper processor realizes the backgroud management and the way of man-machine interface to open and block.
