Selective cross shaft road header could move its boom up and down or left and right, and belongs to single point cutting machine. It could concentrate its power so it could cut harder rock under the same driving power. It possesses better mobility, the cutting effect and the loading characteristic is better. Based on the former theory and empiric formula of road header cutting head design, this paper studies the cutting head design1. Analyzes the general application situation of roadheader and developing trend during our country's eleventh five-year-plan period. Describe the reader head classification, ore character and cutting theory, especially the newest cutting technique. Cross shaft road head is mainly used to excavate coal mine and other mines, generally, prosody akonov scale of hardness of its cutting objective is less then f8. Ore underground is squeezed in three directions. While being cut, pressure-release effect and collapse effect could appear. Generally, compact core theory is used to describe the interaction process between gear and ore: elastic deformation of ore body, producing of micro crack, producing of compact core, development and break out of compactcore are the four steps of the process. Cutting action should happen in pressure-release region. The application of vibration cutting theory is a break through, experiments show that cutting force and specific density consumption are obviously reduced.2. Points out that cutting head is the core operating mechanism of road header. Gears on the cutting head directly act on ore. A good deal of parameters should be considered in cutting head and gears design, including: cutting head geometric parameters, cutting head moving parameters, gear geometric parameters, formation of gear holder, gear distribution on the cutting head, gear spatial movement parameters, cutting parameters, cutting force. All the parameters are interrelated, exiting a large amount of geometric dimensions and angle calculation, and workload being very large. So the design of cutting head is the difficult part and key point in the design of the whole machine.3. According to cross shaft road header, there are three types of cutting modes: longitudinal feed cutting mode, vertical swing cutting mode, and horizontal swing cutting mode which is the main cutting mode of cross shaft road header. Accordingly, there are three types of movements of cutting head which includes longitudinal feed movement,vertical and horizontal swing movement. Movement of gear is resultant movement of one type of cutting movement and automatic rotation of cutting head. So puts forward road header cutting head simulating the moving performance by ADAMS application, studies the model built method of cutting head ADAMS simulating performance and simulating performance technique.4. Gear is the part that directly acts on ore, it must be rigid enough so that it can cut off ore. A t present, cross shaft road header mainly adopt pickaxe shape gear as its cutting part. Pickaxe shape gear is made up of cutter holder and alloy cutter. Alloy cutter that participates in cutting and directly acts on ore should possess enough rigidity and be long enough. So analyzes and generalizes the outside load condition on the cutting head. Summarizes the empiric formula, and according to outside load calculated by formula analyzes cutter holder intension of gear of two kinds cutting head. Especially presents the finite element analysis about key parts intension of cutter holder.5. Puts forward utilizing computer software to design road header cutting head. Such improves the designer ability and reduces designing fault. Generates the software, Design of cross shaft road header cuttinghead, which developed by our company joined with the Jillion University, and by utilizing the software calculates parameters to three kinds cross shaft road header cutting head and optimizes the designing. Thereby improves the designing efficiency and designing quality.In brief, using research results of former people for reference, generalizing kinds of empiric formula, also combining modern calculation and designing method -the finite element analysis, simulating performance technique, virtual designing software, could greatly improve the road header designing ability and quality.
