A study is made on the isothermal forming technology of titanium alloy ZTC4 can. Themain research findings and new outlooks are as follows.1. Through isothermal compression experiment, we have had a systematic study on theforming properties of titanium alloy ZTC4 material (Ti-6Al-4V).The deformation temperature,deformation rate, and deformation extent are analyzed emphatically which affect thermaldeformation flow stress of material. Base on above, adopting regression method and computerprocessing data, the deformation resistance mathematics model is attained, thus offers basisfor isothermal extrusion technologic parameters and computer simulation.2. Though the analysis on the microstructure evolution when ZTC4 is deforming,toughening mechanics can be attained. The material internal structure is good when thedeformation is in 900℃, at medium deformation rate, and over 60% volume deformation.3. The math model is coupled into MSC/Superform which reflects the relationsbetween the material resistance and technologic parameter. We take the isothermal extrusionprocess of the drum as an example, and adopt rigid-plastic finite element method to study howdo the forming technologic parameters influence the equivalent strain ,equivalent stress andthe load-position curve, which provides a theory and technology support for optimizingisothermal extruding technology of drum. We also have studied how did the mouldconfiguration influence the forming process. The result is good when the forming is in 900℃, at 10s-1 deformation rate, and with 0.2 friction coefficient, and it is consistent with theabove isothermal compression experiment result. Adopting 50°as the extrusion die taper ofthe straight drum and 30°as the male mould taper of the straight drum .4. Based on the above work, we choose the shape of the blank ,design the extrusiondie and optimize the technologic parameters, then the drum is get after experiment extrusion.According to the forming result, the designed shape of blank and the mould configuration isreasonable and feasible. The metal flows evenly. The forming accuracy of the straight drummeets the technological requirement. In the bulge experiment, it occurs jam phenomenon. Theresult indicates that male mould 30°taper is unreasonable, then the male mould taper isoptimized and 15°is adopted as the optimum taper.
