In this paper, the development process and actuality of scraper conveyor at home and aboard are reviewed, then the scraper conveyor's basic configuration is introduced and the questions with scraper conveyor in our nation. The weight of trough pan takes up 80% weight of the whole conveyor, so it is very important to optimize the trough pan, topology optimization of the baffle is bring forward in this reason.The topology optimization is the most challenging research topic in the field of optimization, and it is the most economic value and the most potential development method. It obtained great development since it was put forward by Michell in 1904. But it was few applied in practicality. I will use the method to optimize the baffle of the conveyor in the paper, it have important meaning in the topology optimization's application.First, the entity model of the baffle is builded in Pro/E based on a coal mine machine production corporation, then the model is translated into Patran and is checked and modified, then divide finite element gradding, apply boundary load and define material properties, which is submitted to Nastran to calculate, and we gained stress nephogram. From the nephogram we can see that the baffle can be optimized and we can confirm optimization place. Then the model will be modified in the Patran and be analysed in Optishape, then we obtain the result. At last, check its intensity, we can see that the stress distributing of the optimized baffle is more reasonable. It can satisfy primary case and save material, the weigh of the baffle lighten about 8.87%, which brings large benefit for the corporation.
