Because H-beam has many advantages such as economical section, light weight, goodbearing capacity, lower fabrication cost and easily rivet, it is applied widely in industry andcivil steel construction. H-beam may have some defects because of its gravity, the non-uniform bending deflection, the impact deformation in transportation, or the non-uniformtemperature fall in cooling, so its straightening process is necessary.At present, the straightenting of H-beam is in such a way that the roller presses down theweb directly and the flange bends in the drive of web. H-beam has a thick flange which isvertical and a thin web which is horizontal, so the stiffness of them is very different.Inevitablely, the web falling will occur in the process of straightening, which is calledsection deflection in engineering filed. In this paper, the section deflection of H-beam inroller straightening is analyzed by both FEM simulation and theoretical calculation. Themain contents and achievements are as follows:1.The section deflection of H-beam in roller straightening was analyzed in theory bysimplified model. We get the conclusion that the maximum value of web falling appears inthe center of the web and it is related to the section dimension of H-beam, the roll gap andthe collar width. In the condition of elastic deformation, the value of web falling is linearwith the straightening force.2.A FEM model of one straightening unit was established with ANSYS and thestraightening process was simulated to study the section deflection of H-Beam. The stressdistribution and the section deformation shape were researched. We found that because ofthe web falling, the actual bending deflection should be the sum of the theoretical bendingdeflection and the web falling.3. FEM model of one straightening unit under various work condition were calculated.The main factors which influence the web falling include the straightening force, the gapbetween the roller outside and the inner side of the beam, and the radius of roller outsidecorner. The varying regulation of the web falling with the factors was discussed and theregression formula of web falling has been given, which will be helpful to the engineeringapplication.4. The results of simulation and theoretical analysis were compared to examine whetherthe simulation result is rational or not.
