The remote control system is the essential part of the machine tool. With the development of the PMT technology, the potential of the remote control system will be revealed. Tow significant aspacts of the remote control system are showed. One is that operators are free from operation of the machine tool, and another is that it is convenient for adjusting the machine tool. The paper focuses on the research of the remote control system of 5-DOF parallel machine tool (PMT). The main contents of the paper are as follows:The fundamentals of motion control for PMT are analyzed. And the algorithms for motion control are discussed in detail, such that the position and orientation data of cutter can be transformed to the position and orientation of the moving platform, and reverse kinematics model are constructed.The remote control system is developed for PMT. The Micro Controller Unit (MCU), Liquid Crystal Module (LCM), and RS-232 serial communication are adopted for the system hardware, and the circuit diagrams are completed. The system software is based on the integration designer environment (IDE) of Cygnal Company. C51 is used as programs language. At the same time, the remote control system software is modularized——the state display module, the building motion program module, the communications module, and the MCU managing module. And the function of each module is described. The basic functions of the remote control are realized.Based on 5-UPS/PRPU parallel machine, the adjusting and controlling experiments are performed. The better maneuverability and better stability are shown in the operation of the remote control system. The basic movement of the PMT can be controlled by the remote control system, and the real time coordinates are displayed. The expected goal is obtained by and large.
