In this paper, the concept of Micro Machine and Micro-machining are presented. Making use of the commercial EDM machine doing the micro machining is brought forward, and the advantage of the commercial EDM machine in micro-machining field are analyzed. Meanwhile, the element of EDM is presented, especially the micro-EDM.Knowing that the mechanical performances of the commercial EDM machine can meat the requests of micro-machining, the energy of single pulse of the machine's power supply is measured, which decides the accuracy of EDM.In order to find suitable electrode material, a series of experiments are done, using copper and graphite as electrode. Meanwhile, a technical method is tried to reduce electrode wear, making use of area effect.Then, a micro gear pump is designed and manufactured by EDM, proved that EDM has potential in machining of micro components.In the end, the paper is summarized, and the later studies of the micro-machining by the commercial EDM machine are suggested.
