Biological contact oxidation process is a typical immersed biofilm system, which has the advantage of better treating effectiveness, lower utility consumption, resistance to load shock and simple operation. As the carrier of membrane, filler is the key component of the biological contact oxidation and the performance of the filler directly impacts the treating effectiveness. According to the demand of actual engineering, four kinds of respective filler were compared from the aspects of oxygen transfer ability, COD removal, nitrification and turbidity removal on treating soybean wastewater in this paper. Based on the results, two kinds of filler were assembled. To supply evidence for the choice and exploitation of filler, its performance was investigatedThe impact of filler on reactor oxygenation ability experiment for tap water was carried on by evaluating KLa·The results showed that positive sequence in response to the effect extent of filler ratio was elastic filler, internal suspended carrier, web-like filler and combined filler.When the operating condition was same, the biofilm culturing rate was one by one as follows: combined filler for 8 days, web-like filler for 10 days, internal suspended carrier for 10 days, elastic filler for 12 days. But assembled internal sponge suspended carrier just needed 6 days and suspended elastic filler needed 9 days.The experiment used reactor to removal COD, NH3-N and turbidity of soybean wastewater. The results showed that the combined filler reactor had the best treating effectiveness in the four kinds of filler. Under high load shock, the reactor system could recover to the level that COD, NH3-N, turbidity average removal rate was separately 80%, 64% and 71%.But the treating effectiveness of assembled internal sponge suspended carrier was better than that of the other four filler was used independently. The system could recover quickly after high load shock. The COD, NH3-N, turbidity average removal rate was separately 85%, 73% and 81%, which approved that it had good resistance to load shock.The conclusion was as follows: The soft filler and hard filler had their merits and drawbacks respectively. The assembled internal sponge suspended carrier took the advantage of good oxygenation ability of suspended carrier and good biofilm culturing of soft filler. The oxygenation ability of soft filler was improved due to fluidization and the microbe quantity increased, which resulted in good treating effectiveness. In addition, suspended carrier added directly and don't need a stationary barrier, which cut down the expense and leaded to simple management. So suspended carrier that had both soft and hard stuff was suggested to be an important development direction of filler.
