With the quick development of production and industry, the requirement for resources is increased on geometric progression in society. Accordingly that caused more and more serious situation of resources and serious pollution by mine mullock and tailings. Therefore, comprehensive exploration and utilization of mine solid waste is very important significance not only for the optimum disposition of mining resource but also for a sustainable development of mine.In the paper, the development and research dynamic of glass-ceramics are systematically reviewed. The glass-ceramics of CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system, which filled with iron-tailing from Tangshan. The main crystalline phase is diopside; the secondary crystalline phase is wollastonite. An optimum composition range of glass-ceramics is defined. It is SiO2 50~60per cent, Al2O3 4~9 per cent , CaO 8~13 per cent, MgO 3~10 per cent, K2O+Na2O 3~8 per cent, Fe2O3 2~5 per cent. The mixed amount of mineral tailings exceeds 75 per cent.The effects of heat treatment, variety and consistency of nucleation agent on crystal phases and crystallization process are studied by means of DTA, XRD, SEM and Photomicrography. By means of orthogonal test, optimum heat treatment system for glass-ceramics is used by iron-tailings from Tangshan. The Nucleating temperature is 770℃for 60 minutes, the crystallizing temperature is 870℃for 60 minutes, the heating rate is 5℃/min.The variety and consistency of nucleation agent have effect on crystallization behavior of glass-ceramics. By studying and comparing, the composite nucleating agents is TiO2+Cr2O3, the consistency of TiO2 is 2~3 per cent , the consistency of Cr2O3 is 1~2 per cent .At last, this paper study on putting color on glass-ceramics and prepared glass-ceramics with black, blue and red.
