Chinese ancient printmaking dominates in the world's printmaking history, even the colored overprint leaves great impressions in Chinese Ancient Printmaking history. From the colored hand-written copy in early days to the realization of woodblock overprint, it shows the intelligence and talent of the ancient people. The combination of woodblock overprint and "Gong Hua" techniques in Ming Dynasty pushed the ancient colored overprint history to its peak. Chapter one will involve the historical progress of the development of colored overprint and the author will show appropriate opinions in the progress. According to the historical progress of the Engraving Print, the article will introduce five phases as colored overprint, mono-block-colored to mono-block-color, combination of mono-block-multi-color and independent-block-independent-color, multi-block-multi-color, and "woodblock colored overprint". And the author will focus on the research of woodblock overprint. In article, we will separate "woodblock overprint" into two levels depending on the time period and the differences of the content, which is the "woodblock overprint" and multi-color-block overprint [woodblock overprint]. Historical chanciness and inevitability will come along with the production of a new thing, and we will talk about the various connections and causes of the woodblock overprint and "Gong Hua" techniques in the second and third part.
