Laser is one of the important inventions of last century. Its usage in industry has grown steadily and with great success for the last 20 years. Laser marking is a kind of applications of laser in industry. The common NC system that is widely applied to current laser processing is a kind of specialized and closed system, which cannot meet the requirements on high flexibility and low cost in industrial production. It is noticeable that in the last few years the laser marking market has experienced a large growth in the demand of more small seized economical lasers.According to the requirement of new type laser marking machine, this article analyses the particularity of laser marking control and then implements an open CNC system which is based on industrial PC.Besides the DMC motion control card which is the core of the open laser marking control system, this article also presents the techniques of several main parts. Based on above hardware system, the software part is developed.The software part is based on windows system, and it makes good use of abundant resource of windows. With the utilizing of object-oriented method, a friendly human machine interface and an efficient multithreading working environment is fulfilled. This work sets up foundation for further research.Research has been performed to develop the glyph outline processing techniques of Chinese characters by making use of the windows supporting TrueType form of written, passing windows API function obtaining glyph outline of Chinese characters, and using the redundancy removal algorithm(RRA) by vertex traversal. New glyph outlines after RRA processing are well suited for laser marking and can be utilized for generation of NC code.In addition, this article is provided with two data conversion modules one can convert international standard NC code into DMC command. The other is an automatic NC graphic programming system based on DXF files of AutoCAD platform. All these modules improve the working efficiency and practical application worthiness of the system to higher extent.This new type of system is more reliable, more powerful, more opening and more economical. So it is can be widely used in the future.
