GY-â…£portable type Golden Content Analysis Instrument is a special fluorometer instrument used in the testing of contents of noble metals. X-ray fluorescent instrument, as a non destructive testing tool, is especially applicable to the identification of gems and jewelry. In this paper, it was successfully used in the analysis of the major measurable elements in of familiar gem samples and rare gem samples without standard samples. The application of this instrument to the gemstone appraisal is detailed introduced, and several examples are analyzed, such as natural gems, enhancemented gems and so on. When there is one or more kind of high content of elements in the sample, the spectrum obtained from the instrument was fitted with the PeakFit software and the contents of the major elements were gained qualitatively and semi-quantitatively. X-ray scatter technique is applicative in Light Matrix. Results show that X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis is an effective assistant means in the testing of gems. Most of natural gemstones are consisted of inorganic mineral, and each of them have specific chemical constituents. It is an effective assistant method in the testing of gems especially when some of the general testing methods cannot be used, the main elements of the gem can be analyzed and so the kind of gem can be determined based on gemmological parameters,.When the instrument is used in the testing of gems, many advantages are manifest, such as the quick speed of the test, nondestructive of the samples, wide detection range, reliable results, etc. The semi-quantitative analysis errors between calculated results and true was also discussed and analysed.
