The torsional vibration of rolling mill's main drive system is the main causation for breakage of rolling mill equipment. Research on torsional vibration phenomena of rolling mill's main drive system can get better cognition on the theory of the torsional vibration and provide theoretic assist on design and optimizing the rolling mill's main drive system as far as reducing level of torsional vibration.In this paper, both offset model and master dependent model of rolling mill's main drive system based on lump mass method were created to calculate the natural frequency, the principal mode, the nature frequency's sensitivity to design parameter and the torque amplitude factor of torsional vibration. The dynamic performance of rolling mill's main drive system with gaps when inspirited by gnawing into steel board was also calculated. And then, the torsional vibration analysis software based on MATLAB was developed. The software has friendly user interface, can be easily used by engineers.Finally, the finite element model of a blooming mill's main drive system was created. The constraint equations between freedom degrees were used to simulate coupling relation of axes, then the natural frequency and modes of the main drive system were calculated by finite element method. The dynamic response was also obtained using model superposition method.The work in the paper made a foundation for both optimizing design and estimating torsional vibration of rolling mill's main drive system.
