Nowadays, the problem that the city underground tap water pipelines make water is still a serious issue in many water supply companies and rich families. At the same time, the equipment and technology of water-supply enterprises in our country is out of date. It is earnestly long for seeking an economical and effective way for all these supply water enterprises. In other countries, the method which uses signal correlation analysis technology to detect pipeline leak has been developing rapidly. At present, this kind of acoustic leak detection equipment has been widely used for routine leaking examination work in some developed countries and has got good results.Based on the theory analysis of correlated literature, the thesis using virtual instrument technology to design the signal correlation analysis technology, which is used to detect pipeline leak and fix position. Then, the software and hardware scheme is designed. With the quick developing of computer, it is possible to use software and virtual instrument technology improving the accuracy and responsibility of leak detection and position-setting, combing with the methods used today. At the same time, the method has better adaptability. The thesis used LabVIEW to process the leak signal and analysis the time and frequency domain, thereby locating the leak position exactly. LabVIEW is powerful software, which can be used with MATLAB to eliminate noise by using wavelet transform. The thesis also analyzed the principle of time delay estimation in some typical application environment and the universal principle about the selection of the method of time delay estimation when involved in the design of the leak detection system and actual detection. Finally, many experiments have been done to verify the feasibility and accuracy of the system.
