The present paper reported fundamental study in exterior circulative impinging stream reactor(ECISR), which has excellent performance in mixing. The macromixing and micromixing in this reactor was studied experimentally in cold reactor which was one hundred and sixty litres in volume.In the macromixing experiment, the characteristics of fluid mixing time in exterior circulative impinging stream reactor(ECISR) have been studied by conductance measurement. The influence of machinery of impinging segment, feed-in position, circulative position, circulative flux were studied with a systematic way. These factors affecting the mixing time of ECISR were analyzed;the result indicated that circulative position is the most significant factor,and circulative position B has the minimum mixing time;the less significant factor is feed-in position, the top of the impingement zone is the best feed-in position while the bottom of the impingement zone is the worst;the greater circulative flux fluid into the systerm,the shorter the mixing time was,but the change of mixing time was not distinct when the circulative flux raise up to 5000 litre per hour;the mixing time of impinging segmentâ… is better than impinging segmentâ…¡.In the micromixing experiment, a pair of competitive parallel reactions were used to investigate the micromixing in the ECISR, gas chromatography was used to analyze the product distribution. The factors of machinery of impinging segment, feed-in time, feed-in position, circulative flux affecting the micromixing of ECISR were systematical studied. A simplified distortion-diffuseness model was applied to token the product distribution of parallel reaction. The result indicated that the micromixing is promoted very efectively in the impingement zone,and the top of the impingement zone is the best feed-in position while the top of the reactor is the worst;The increasing in feed-in time promote micromixing while the feed-in position and circulative position are changeless,but there is a critical feed-in time,micromixing become steady while feed-in time up to this critical value. We can approximately dispel the influence of macromixing while using this critical value as the feed-in time;the performance of micromixing was promoted obviously along with the increasing in circulative flux, but the change of mixing time was not distinct when the circulative flux raise up to 6000 litre per hour; the micromixing of impinging segmentâ…¡is obviously better than impinging segmentâ… .
