High speed machining technology has become a new technology that has been researched and applied in modern manufacturing for its high efficiency, high precision and high processing quality and little pollution, which has been widely used in the automotive, aerospace, mold and other manufacturing field. High speed cutters are key to realize the advantages of high speed machining, and high speed face milling cutter is as the commonly used high-speed milling cutter, that its performance is good or bad is directly related to processing efficiency, processing quality and processing costs of the products. At present, high-speed face milling cutter design is mainly based on experiences and lack of quantitative knowledge-driven design; it is difficult to guarantee the efficiency and quality of its design.Knowledge engineering makes knowledge as the driving force for product design, through the common role in the implementation of Knowledge Base, Case Base as well as Reasoning module to realize the "intelligent" of the product design. It is necessary to study the Knowledge-based high speed face milling cutter design method deeply for the existing problems in its design to improve its design efficiency and quality.Based on existing researches, adopting knowledge-based approach for the research of high speed face milling cutter design technology, the main contents as follows:Put forward the knowledge acquisition method combined the UG/KF language and adopting existing models for the characteristics of high speed face milling cutter design knowledge, realize knowledge expression of high speed milling mechanism, matching of high speed face milling cutter and workpiece materials, structures of high speed face milling cutter and also dynamic balancing and security knowledge, adopting the combination of RBR and CBR knowledge reasoning method and manage knowledge with modular approach;Combining KBE and the structural characteristics of high speed face milling cutter , put forward a hierarchical structure of knowledge based and its management system, study the expressing method and retrieval algorithms of the examples in the case base, and realize the reasoning of the high speed face milling cutter design through the case retrieval based on design rules and parameter-set driving;Based on the conclusion of high speed face milling cutter design flow, create the application framework model of high speed face milling cutter design based on secondary development of UG, realize knowledge-based high speed face milling cutter body design adopting UG/KF technology, and achieve knowledge-driven high speed face milling cutter assembly design adopting UG/WAVE technology, build a knowledge-based design system for high speed face milling cutter;Combined with examples of high speed milling aluminum alloy, adopting the system to create high speed face milling cutter model, verify that knowledge-based high speed face milling cutter design method is reasonable and the reasoning is correct through finite element analysis, dynamic balancing analysis and high speed cutting experiment.The results show that the knowledge-based high speed face milling cutter design method can achieve a good design based on the existing knowledge and re-use of the experience, changing the design process from the previous based on design experience to a more scientific-based quantitative design, and using the knowledge engineering idea, realize the intelligent design of high speed face milling cutter, greatly improve the design efficiency and also have practical significance in improving quality of high speed face milling cutter products.
