The main characterization parameters are temperature, oxygen, flammable and toxic gases which represent the state of confined man-machine environment, and have significant impacts on personnel safety and instrument performance. Due to the particularity of confined space, it asks for special monitoring means and methods, the virtual instrument technology provides an ideal monitoring platform in data acquisition and remote monitoring at the confined space. Based on hardware equipment of some sensors and data acquisition module etc, this paper completed remote monitoring system of confined space environment taking LabVIEW software as the core, which realized automatic acquisition, real-time display, analysis, records storage, remote monitoring and other functions of confined space environment information.This paper emphasized the whole designing process of the system, functions of each module and remote network monitoring particularly. The system combined with two main parts:hardware and software. The hardware part was mainly responsible for the Signal acquisition and modulation. First, the data acquisition module China ADAM 4017 was used to transform the output analog signals, which contained the electrochemical gas sensor inside Testo flue gas analysis system and K-type temperature sensor into digital signals, and then connected the PC with RS485/232, at last formed hardware of remote monitoring system by switch. Software is the key and core of the system, which mainly realized functions of serial communication, data display and handling, remote transmission. This system adopted VISA to realize serial communication, low-level driver calls and parameter configuration, then developed in LabVIEW to illustrate the waveform of environment parameter, such as O2, CH4, and CO, as well as the temperature, realized the functions of real-time data acquisition, monitoring, alarm setting, record storage and etc. Finally, network resources were used to achieve data sharing and dissemination based on the DataSocket technology and Remote Panels technology. Moreover, this paper discussed the performance test and the application of the monitoring system, which verified the feasibility and effectiveness of this system. The remote monitoring system was finished for confined space and provided a good development platform in the development of environmental monitoring system. It provided the reliable reference for creating a high quality, safety and harmonious human-system environment.
