Coordination polymers containing derivatives of triazole are of contemporary interest because of their structural topologies and potential applications in the area of magnetism, luminescence, adsorption and anion exchange during the past decade.In the work, we reported nine coordination compounds with flexible ligand 1,2-bis(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)ethane(btre), N-(2-(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)ethyl)formamide (tref) and transition metal cations Ag(Ⅰ),Zn(Ⅱ),Mn(Ⅱ),Cd(Ⅱ) namely, {[Ag(btre)2] (BF4)}n(1),{[Ag2(btre)1.5(H2O)](SO4)·5H2O}n(2),{[Ag(btre)](NO3)·H2O}n(3),{[Ag(btre)](ClO4)}n(4),{[Zn(btre)0.5(nip)(H2O)2]·CH3OH)}n(5),{[Cd(btre)0.5(nip)(H2O)2]·H2O}n(6),[Zn2(btre)2(NO2)4]n(7),[Mn(btre)2(NCS)2]n(8) and [Ag4(tref)4(nip)2(H2O)2]·4H2O (9) (H2nip= 5-nitroisophthalic acid). The nine coordination compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, X-ray crystallography, luminescence analyses, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analyses and anion exchange (3) and (4).The btre ligand mostly exhibits the anti-conformation. The molecular structure self-assemblies of the btre and AgX(X=BF4-, SO42-, NO3- and ClO4-) coordination polymers: from simple 1-D chain (1) to 2-D topology network (2) to novel non-interpenetrating 3-D frameworks (3) and (4).The anion exchanges of coordination compounds (3) and (4) occur smoothly. To investigate the exchange procedure, the anion exchange could be monitored by the characteristic IR bands. The similar coordination complexes (5) and (6) have been synthesized by H2nip and one family of two metal cations Zn(Ⅱ) and Cd(Ⅱ).
