With the development of textile industrial productions and the growth of products export, the demand for the shuttleless weaving machine have keeping rising. Great changes have taken place from abroad in mechatronics, speed, and some other technical issue. Compared with the foreign-made weaving machine, there's a big gap between foreign-made weaving machine and domestic weaving machine. So improve and develop domestic shuttleless weaving machine performance is imminent. Rapier weaving machine is one of the most important weaving machine and weft selector is the key component of rapier loom. Based on the actual need, this paper designs a new kind of weft selector which controlled by stepper motion. This design is totally different with existing rapier loom in the company. It can help customer save thousands of yarn cost each year and also improves the performance of rapier loom.This paper introduces the new weft selector from three sections: mechanical side, electrical side and motor side.For the mechanical and motor parts, according to the work position and characteristic of weft selector device, this paper define to use stepper motor to control the weft disc. The connecting parts connected by synchronous belt. Makes a detailed design calculation for the important component, and gives mechanical drawing of some component.For the motor parts, according to the characteristics of weft selector device with overall performance requirements, investigate the working state of new weft selector. And give the detail design calculation of stepper motor. Define the type of stepper motor of the new weft selector and gives the basic parameters and mechanical sizes of the stepping motor.For the electrical parts, this paper research the hardware and software system of defined rapier loom, decide to use the programmable logic device type EP1K50QC208-3 from company named ALTERA and high frequency full bridge FET driver type HIP4080A from company named INTERSIL to drive the stepper motor, then use the stepper motor to control the weft disc of new weft selector.This paper designs new weft selector device which controlled by stepper motor, it already assembled on the rapier loom for testing. Now the new weft selector has a good performance running on the loom. But this device still has some shortcoming in the application of yarn, so need to be improve in the further.
