As the double-enveloping hourglass worm gearing is characterized with multi-tooth line contact, height load-carrying capacity and efficiency transmission, it is more and more widely applied by modern industry. For the complex shape of the worm's tooth surface ,it's difficult to process, the development of the kinds of processing equipment is limited and can not meet market's demand. In recent years, the NC Research Institute of the Xi-hua University has been committed to this kind of processing equipment's development and study, has been developed a two-axis CNC grinding machine, a CNC turning machine and so on. In this paper, based on previous studies, exploit and analyze on a new four-axis simultaneous motion CNC grinder for this worm to meet market's demand.Based on analysis of the traditional processing equipment's grinding principle, a new four-axis simultaneous motion CNC grinder was put forward, which mainly uses the principle of virtual machining center distance. The machine have marked improvement for the simplify CNC grinding machine's structure and expanding the scope of processing areas.Based on the theoretical analysis, the overall program's proposal ,the mechanical structure of the CNC grinding machine and key components was designed, focusing on the turntable and the grinding head part's detailed design. To improve CNC grinding machine's machining accuracy and grinding efficiency, using Ansys software, modal analysis was carried out for turntable and the grinding head part's key components, their basic dynamic characteristics parameters was obtained and lay the foundation for the key components successor structure optimization study. In order to verify the correctness of the CNC machining, based on the analysis of the worm's processing technology, NC program was establish , machining simulation was carried out by using VERICUT software. Interference in the processing machine case and processing precision is verified, the NC program was optimized too. Demonstrated the feasibility of this four-axis simultaneous motion CNC grinder for worm, shorten the design and manufacturing cycles, increasing the scope of the CNC grinding machine processing, so high economic benefits was received.
