Four-row tapered roller bearings are the most widely used in rolling mills. To meet the demands of the rolling mill for high velocity, heavy duty and high precision, it has become an important issue to analyze the bearings by using the modern designed methods, such as three-dimensional finite element (FEM).According to the characteristics of its structure and loads, the four-row tapered roller bearing No.3510/560 used as the neck bearing of cantilever edger mill in a mill factory, has been analyzed in this paper. The characteristics of bearing load between bearing's rollers and rings have been obtained under the different working conditions:(1)The relation of rolling bearing's contact stress and strain has been explained based on the Hertz contact theory. It also deduces the relationship of rolling bearing's stress and deformation with the radial load under the radial gap or no radial gap.(2)The calculation method of original radial gap has been described. With this method, the original radial gap of Four-row tapered roller bearing under working conditions has been calculated.(3)The contact stress between the rolling and the rings has been calculated under the condition of evenly distributed loads of spindle. It has been shown that the contact stress is symmetrical along the roller axis and gently distributed around the central axis.(4)The effect of the location of roller on the load distributed region under has been analyzed in the so-called quasi-dynamic method. It has been shown that when the bearing roller is 6°from the central axis, the maximum value was slightly less than the biggest stress when it is in the initial position, and the simulated results are similar with the theoretical ones.(5) This paper has compared the results from different radial gap, external load distribution, and it also analyzes the results taking the temperature field into account or not. The results were consistent with theoretical calculations.
