The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the exhaust gas is one important reason for air pollution. In this paper, a new absorbent is prepared for purifying VOCs from exhaust gases. A stable emulsion is using water and biodiesel as raw material for the first time. This new absorbent can improve the absorptive efficiency of biodiesel, and it is used to remove toluene-containing waste gas.In this paper, the emulsion can be made of two kinds of emulsifier. Through the variance analysis of experimental data, effect of various factors (ratio of Biodiesel and water, HLB of emulsifier, amounts of emulsifier, emulsifying time and emulsifying temperature)on the stability of emulsion has been investigated. The results show that the suitable conditions for absorbent preparation are as following:for emulsionâ… , the ratio of Biodiesel and water is 7:3; the HLB of emulsifier is 10, the amounts of emulsifier is 5%, the emulsifying time is 0.5h and the emulsifying temperature is room temperature. The emulsion is used to absorb toluene-containing waste gas. The exhaust gas is made in the laboratory. The experimental data can be obtained by gas chromatography. And the optimal operation conditions are established too. The results show that the removal ratio of toluene in the exhaust gas can reach up to 90.3%. For emulsionâ…¡, the ratio of Biodiesel and water is 7:3; the amounts of emulsifier is 0.04%, the emulsifying time is 0.5h and the emulsifying temperature is room temperature. The emulsion is used to absorb toluene-containing waste gas. In addition, it is proved that the absorption of emulsion is better than biodiesel. Therefore, this new absorption can be used to purify VOCs of the waste gas.We systematically investigated the influence of operational variables on absorption efficiency, such as the entrance concentration of absorbed toluene-containing waste gas, the absorption temperature, the gas flow velocity, Through the variance analysis of experimental data, we can know that:the entrance concentration of absorbed toluene-containing waste gas is high, the absorptive efficiency is better. The absorptive efficiency is worse with the increasing of absorbed temperature. The absorptive efficiency is better in the low flow velocity of the gas.To reuse the material, the paper studied the emulsion breaking method of the emulsion. It can be proved that the chemical demulsification method is effective by the experimental data. Therefore, we can decrease the cost of remove the VOCs in the gas. In this paper, preparation of absorbent, stability of absorbent, the absorption properties of absorbent, and emulsion breaking are researched.
