This master thesis mainly did research on the principles and methods of how to design preschool children's toys. So far, preschool children's toys have many more functions compared with the original toys. Of all the functions, educational function plays a more and more important role today. Most of the preschool children spend their daily lives with kinds of toys. The educational function is much more prominent for a preschool child, as toys are important tools to use for preschool education. There is no doubt that such toys which are intended for education will dominate the preschool toys market.Although China products lots of toys every year, she doesn't do well at all, for China mainly products toys for foreign companies. Blind belief of copying the excellent examples of other countries leads to the lack of innovation. During the financial crisis all over the world, Chinese production of toys are facing more opportunities and challenges, which provides more space for toys design.Today, most Chinese companies have enhanced their awareness of toys design. The design principles and methods for preschool children's toys can not only guide our production, but also improve our international competitiveness.This thesis mainly used literature retrieval, morphological analysis, modeling description, analog and so on. Such disciplines like child psychology, design psychology, pedagogy, human factors-engineering, design chromatology are the chief theories of all this thesis.First, I defined the toys for preschool children, gave a brief description for the status of children's toys, especially the educational function, which was conducive to my research.Additionally, according to child psychology, I studied both babies'and early children's psychological characters. I studied the educational functions for children of different ages, aggregated the design principles for preschool children, including individualized, indigenous, and safe design, which will to some extent guides the toys industry.Finally, I did research on the ways of design for toys for preschool children based on educational function. From the aspects of functions, modeling, safety, human-factors and so on, I analyzed the factors for educational toys design, using lots of excellent cases, which helped me to aggregated multi-function design, multi-material design, interactive design, improvement for traditional toys, and test the feasibilities.
