Three kinds of dicyclopentadiene polymerization catalysts were prepared with TPP and its oxides and tungsten hexachloride and its oxides by coordination reaction.The activity of above-mentioned catalysts was investigated for dicyclopentadiene polymerization. The polydicyclopentadiene/montmorillonite nano-composites were prepared by the catalysts aboved-mentioned and the syructure and performance of nano-composites were detected by IR , XRD and universal material testing machine. The characterization results of IR showed that TPP, TPP oxide and complex catalysts had some common characteristic absorbefacient peaks, and the strong absorption peaks of the coordination bond formed by P atoms and O atoms in the composition were also observed, so the coordination reaction between TPP, TPP oxides and tungsten hexachloride was feasible. The methodology of new catalysts with low cost was simple. They had a greater tolerance in a humid environment compared with the traditional catalysts. The activity testing showed that the new catalysts had higher catalytic activity.A supported of W-P complex catalysts on MMT was prepared and was used to catelyzied DCPD polymerization to form PDCPD/MMT nanocomposites. The XRD characterization of composites proved that MMT was exfoliated in the PDCPD matrix. The mechanical test results showed that the nano-composites had higher tensile and bending strength, and had the character of toughness and strong simultaneously. When the MMT content reached a certain extent especially, the highest impact strength of composites was 524.2J/m, and the highest hardness was 73D. All data above-mentioned proved that the new catalysts system could be used to prepare nano-composites with excellent performance.
