Advanced static var generator (ASVG) is an important Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controller. It is a kind of device, which is based on power convertor and can compensate reactive power of electronic system, and is the important component of Flexible AC Transmission System in electronic industry and has emerged in recent yeas. It applies electric and electronic technology, technology of the computer and modem control technology to the power system. Through the control of outputting voltage amplitude and phase of the device, it can implement flexible and fast control to the network parameter and network structure of the power system, can regulate continuously the reactive power in the whole range from capacitive reactive power to inductive reactive power, reach to compensate rapidly the demand for the reactive power of the system, thus can suppress the voltage fluctuating and strengthen systematic stability.This thesis compares the advantages and disadvantages of various Var compensation devices, introduces the development and current situation of ASVG analyzes its working principle and control method, designs small capacity single phase ASVG test device based on theory research and control method research. This thesis also gives main circuit, control circuit and system software flowchart, takes electric electronic component IGBT as key part of reverse converter in main power circuit, and uses the SPWM to control IGBT open and close. Considering DSP has many advantages, such as fast operation speed , better real-time, high dependability etc, the device takes digital signal processor TMS320LF2407 as core part of control circuit which can take current and voltage sample, data process, control, real time calculate etc, and then the device can realize fast dynamic response to electrical system. In control circuit, there are signal modulating circuit, isolating driver circuit of IGBT and LCD display circuit etc. The system software adopts modularization program, shows the flowchart of every module.
