Practical Exploration Of Medical Social Work In Local Hospital

Medical social work is part of the social work. By managing all kinds of social resources available, it solves various medical problems from the perspectives of the patient, the family and the hospital and guarantees the medical behavior of the hospital. In recent years, with the rapid transformation of the society, social contradictions are revealing day by day. In the medical field, the conflict between the doctor and the patient are escalating progressively, which requires medical social workers to form the concept of people-oriented to build a bridge between the patient and the hospital, and to help people to help themselves and set up social support network by the expansion of case work, group work and community work. However, the medical social work in our country is still at the beginning stage, and has not been well-known and recognized by the public.Medical social workers must play the "liquid role" in their medical work."Liquid role" is to integrate medical social work into the medical system of the hospital and never interrupts the operation of normal medical work. It combines professional skills with the service idea and surroundings of the hospital, and strengthens the communication between the doctor and the patient with the concept of people-oriented and helping people to help themselves. Besides, it helps to relieve the burden of the patient through resource integration to remedy spiritual lose caused by pure medical work in modern hospitals and to guide the hospital to develop in a more humane way.In Shanghai, only very few hospitals have made progress in the implement of medical social work, and most tertiary A hospitals have just introduce the new concept of medical social work and medical social workers still have a long way to go. Based on my experience of the internship in Huashan Hospital, this thesis puts forwards some thoughts and reflections on how should the medical social workers integrate into the hospital system and perform better in the "fluid role".Through the methods of literature review, case analysis and interview, this thesis mainly discusses:The first part mainly elaborates the background, significance and method of the research.The second part focuses on the literature review. The third part demonstrates how the medical social workers in Huashan Hospital undertake medical social work.The fourth part probes into the advantages and predicaments that native medical social workers integrate into the hospital system.The last part proves that to integrate into the hospital system, medical social workers need support from the government, the hospital and themselves.
