Purpose To investigate the expression of apoptosis-related proteins,Fas, Fas ligand(L), BC1-2, P53 in human Ovarian epithelial neoplasms and to explore the significant in tumorigenesis. Methods Immunohistochemistry staining was used to check the presence and the features of Fas, FasL, BC1-2 and P53 proteins, material of investigation included 10 cases of adenoma, 10 with low potential malignancy(LPM) and 39 with carcinoma. Results The positive rate of BC1-2 expression were 70.0% in adenoma, 40.0% in LPM and 23.1% in carcinoma, (P=0. 03). inverse of P53 expression, cells expressing P53 increased in borderline tumors and more in cancer (P=0.02), Fas and FasL were highly expressed in all tumors, Fas expression was no difference in each category (P=0.88), FasL was statistically significant(P=0.03).Levels of P53 and FasL protein expression with advanced Cancer (FIGO stages III and IV) exceeded those with localized Cancer (FIGO stages I and II ) (P=0.05 and P=0.01).Conclusions The initial development of ovarian epithelial neoplasms was correlation of expression of apoptosis-related proteins,BC1-2, P53, Fas, and FasL. In carcinomas, P53 and FasL expression in advanced cancer exceeded in localized Cancer and showed a less favourable prognosis than those without.
