Five polysaccharides were isolated and purified from water extracts of cultured Cordycepa militaris Linn through ethanol precipition, deproteination and gel-filtration chromatography. Their molecular weight were estimated by gel-filtration chromatography. The structures of CPS-1 , CPS- 2 and CPS-3 were elucidated by sugar analysis, Smith degradation, IR and I3C -NMR spectrophotogrophy.Rhmnose, xylose, mannose, glucose and galacose were included in CPS-1 with the molar ratio of 1: 6.43: 25.6: 16.0: 13.8 . Its average MW was estimated to be 22984.It contained mannose bonded by (1-2) linkage, xylose bonded by (1 -4) linkage, rhamnose bonded with galactose by (1 -2) or (1 -3) linkage by NMR and a - glucosidic bonds by IR analysis. It had no typical absorption of nuceic acid or protein by UV scanning.Rhmnose , glucose and galacose were involved in CPS- 2 with molar ratio of 1: 4. 46: 2. 43. Its average MW was estimated to be 12965 .There are -glucosidic bonds in its structure by IR analysis.CPS-3 was a homogeneous polysaccharede. It MW was 4994, and composed of D-glucose with a major linkage form of a -D-(l- 4)-glucose, Side chains were found at 6-O positions once in every 8 glucose residues.
