Salivary gland tumor is one of the most common diseases in oral and maxillofacial tumors. At present, the research on tumor markers by the doctors of department of stomatology gives some evidence on the nature and prognosis of salivary gland tumors. Saliva has close relationship with the salivary gland, because the salivary gland cells including the tumor cells could excrete soluble protein into the saliva. It is reasonable that the detection of some tumor markers in saliva could be more sensitive than that in serum. Previous researches showed that CA125 was detected in tumorsfrom many kinds of tissues, it was also confirmed the detection of CA125 in malignant salivary tumors by immunochemical assays. The aim of this study is to investigate the express difference of CA125 in saliva between the patients with salivary gland tumors and the healthypersons, as well as to find out whether the detection of CA125 in saliva from patients with salivary gland tumors could give useful information to the clinical doctors or not.Materials and Methods35 patients with salivary gland tumors confirmed by postoperative pathologic diagnosis and 30 healthy persons were included into the study. The salivas from them were collected and the detection of CA125 was performed by enzyme immunometric assay. The data was analysized using the statistical analysis software.ResultsThe content of CA125 in saliva from patients with salivary gland tumors (707.5 146.2 U/L) is significant higher than that from healthy persons (314.5 55.5 U/L) , t=-2.512, P<0.05. The content of CA125 in saliva from patients with benign salivary gland tumors (497.8 71.7 U/L) is significant higher than that from healthy persons, t=-2.017, P<0.05.ConclusionThe content of CA125 in saliva from patients with salivary gland tumors is significant higher than that from healthy persons, so there is some clinical value to judge salivary gland tumors by detecting CA125 in saliva. The content of CA125 in saliva from patients with benign salivary gland tumors is significant higher than that from healthy persons, so there is also some clinical value to judge benign salivary gland tumors by detecting CA125 in saliva.
