| ObjectiveWe used the SCORAD system to evaluate the severity of AD patients. The total IgE levels were measured by chemiluminescence method. The specific IgE levels were measured by Enzyme immunoassy method. We intend to study weather serum IgE levels correlate with the severity of atopic dermatitis ( AD).Methods145 AD patients were selected in the study. SCORAD system was used to measure the severity of AD.The total IgE levels were measured by chemiluminescence method. The specific IgE levels were measured by Enzyme immunoassy method. t - test and x2 test were applied to analyze the data.Results99 out of 145 AD patients have elevated total IgE (68.3% ). The IgE levels of AD patients were significantly higher than those of healthy controls ( P < 0. 01). The total IgE level is consistent with the severity of skin lesions. It was found that 131 cases (90.4% ) with AD had specific IgE to at least one of the allergens. It was also shown that AD patients older than 5 years of age have higher positive rate of specific IgE to inhalant allergens; AD patients younger than 5 years of age have higher positive rates of IgE to food allergens. The ratesof specific IgE to mite, house dust and fish are most common among all the tested (50.3% ,35.9% ,26.2%, respectively).ConclusionAD patients usually have high levels of IgE. Total IgE level is consistent with severity of skin lesions. Food allergy is the main cause in patients younger than 5 years of age, and inhalation allergy is the main cause in patients older than 5 years of age. Mites, house dust and fish were most commonly seen allergen in AD from Northern China. |
