Objective to evaluate the some risk factors and complications of various types of coronary heart disease (CHD) in elderly patients. Methods 647 cases older than 70 years, which were divided into acute myocardial infarction (AMI , n=145), unstable angina pectoris (UAP, n=87), and stable angina pectoris(SAP, n=415), were selected from admitted patients between 1988 and 2001. Serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, ApoA, ApoB, HDL-c, LDL-c, glucose, uric acid, and fibrinogen were examined in 647 patients with CHD and in 69 controls. Results Serum total LDL-c, LDL-c/HDL-c ratio, percentage of patients over 80 years old, rate of patients complicated by diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, and hypertension were significantly higher in SAP, UAP, and AMI groups than that of control group. Serum HDL-c were significantly lower in SAP, UAP, and AMI groups than that of control group. But there was no significant difference for each comparison of three groups. Serum total cholesterol was significantly higher in AMI, and UAP groups than that in other groups. LDL-c/HDL-c ratio was significantly higher in AMI groups than in other groups. Fibrinogen was significantly higher in AMI group than in control group; Multi-factors, non-qualification logistic regression analysis shows that OR values of diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, and systolic blood pressure were 2.3346, 3.6920, 1.7641, respectively as risk factors; Rate of patients complicated by heart failure was significantly higher in AMI, SAP, and UAP groupsthan in control group. After correction of the factors of diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension, there are significantly positive correction between heart failure and coronary types and age. Conclusions In elderly patients, age, diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension are all important risk factors of CHD. There are close relationships between heart failure and CHD types and age in elderly patients.
