| Purpose: To evaluate the Toxin Reducing-Effect function of Bu Shen Yi Huo Tang on Radiotherapy for Esophagus Cancer and discuss its mechanism.Methods: 60 esophagus cancer patients were randomized into 2 groups: control group (radiotherapy group, 30 cases) and   treatment   group   (combined   Bu   Shen   Yi   Huo   Tang   and Radiotherapy,  30 cases) Routine radiotherapy was applied to both groups. 3 days before radiotherapy, patients of treatment group took Bu Shen Yi Huo Tang, one decoction per day until the end of radiotherapy. Observe the changes of TNF- α ,   T cell subgroup and KPS score before and after radiotherapy in the two groups. Meanwhile, register the radiation intensity and their grades when acute radiation esophagitis   and   arrest   of  bone   marrow   occurred.Results:   The difference of TNF- α before and after radiotherapy between treatment group and control group has no statistic significance (P>0.05). After radiotherapy, in treatment group, the peripheral blood CD4/CD8 ratio in T lymphocyte with esophagus cancer was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Bu Shen Yi Huo Tang adjusts the balance of CD4/CD8 ratio by increasing CD4 and reducing CD8. Acute radiation esophagitis rate in treatment group is significantly lower than that of control group (P<0.05). The average radiation intensity when acute radiation esophagitis appeared , the rate of bone marrow arrest and its severity between two groups have no statistic significance. KPSscore of treatment group after radiotherapy is significantly higher than that of control group (P<0.05).Conclusions: Bu Shen Yi Huo Tang can improve the esophagus cancer patient's life quality because it can improve immunologic function and reduce side and toxic effect of radiotherapy. Further investigation about the long-term effect of Bu Shen Yi Huo Tang is still necessary. |
