Objective To determine the plasma levels of apolipoprotein M (ApoM) in patients suffered from coronary artery disease (CAD) and to investigate the relationship between ApoM and other(apo)lipoproteins; To detect apolipoprotein M in the mononuclear phagocyte and atheromatous patch and to investigate the function of ApoM in the development of CAD.Methods Determining the plasma levels of ApoM by Dot-Blotting in 70 CAD patients and in 85 normal volunteers , and measuring plasma concentrations of apolipoprotein AI (ApoAI).apolipoprotein B (Apo B).lipoprotein a (Lpa). total glyceride(TG). total cholesterol(TC. cholesterol in high density lipoprotein(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) with the methods of automated immunonephelometry and enzymatic methods at the clinical laboratory, third affiliated hospital of SuZhou university, comparing the plasma levels of ApoM in CAD patients with normal volunteers and analyzing the relationship between ApoM and other apolipoproteins. Severing the mononuclear phagocyte from the blood of CAD patients and normal volunteers, detecting the ApoM in the mononuclearphagocyte with the immunohistochemical method ; Detecting the ApoM in the atheromatous patch with the immunohistochemical method. Results The plasma concen trations of ApoM in CAD patients were significantly higher than those in normal volunteers (t=9.745, PO.01) and negatively correlated with ApoAI(r=-0.2423> p=0.0433), LDL-C/ApoB (r=-0.2481, p=0.0383) and LDL-C (r=-0.2608(K p=0.0292), however, ApoM in normal volunteers was positively correlated with HDL-C(r=0.3469, p=0.0095) and HDL-C/ApoAI (r=0.4146, p=0.0016). ApoM is expressed in the mononuclear phagocyte of CAD patients and normal volunteers. In the aorter atheromatous patch ApoM can also be detected. Conclusion ApoM might be involved in the metabolism of bloob-lipid in vivo and be associated with the development of CAD .
