Background and objective At present, there were lots of researches about changes with aging of inflammation markers such as TNFα, IL-6, IL-1 ICAM-1 and hs-CRP, however, the results were always contradiction. Some studies found that inflammation markers were increased with aging, which not only was the sign of aging, but can aggravate the hurt of bodies. A vicious circle was formed, which accelerate the aging. At the same time, some researches found that, the phenomenon of inflammation markers increased with aging was not existed in healthy older population. The micro-inflammation state in randomly selected older population was partly caused by arteriosclerosis and age-related diseases and arteriosclerosis risk factors. Therefore, Is there a state of micro-inflammation in the process of aging in healthy population? What were the related factors of micro-inflammation? To resolve these questions, we designed this study to explore the age-related changes of inflammation markers in healthy population of northern China and assess the related risk factors; to study the influence of IL-6 gene promoter region polymorphisms on the inflammation markers in serum. Methods Total 904 healthy people (aged 30-89 years old), in northern territory of China, were selected by randomly cluster-sampling. IL-6 and hs-CRP were detected by immunonephelometry assay and ELISA, respectively. The nutrition status and life-style were investigated by questionnaire. The healthy status was assessed by physical examination, hematology and Biochemistry. Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and atherosclerosis plaque were detected by High-resolution ultrasonography. IL-6 gene promoter region 174G/C, 597G/A and 572C/G polymorphisms were genotyped by PCR-RFLP. Analyse the relationship between inflammation markers and EVIT, atherosclerosis plaque, aging, body...
