Background: The incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing by years, and it ranks second as a cause of death due to cancer in the Western world. In our country, it ranks fourth in the incidence of malignant carcinoma, just follows gastric cancer, lung cancer and liver cancer. Although the prognosis of colorectal cancer is relative good, but the curative effect is not satisfied, especially for the patients with advanced refractory colorectal cancer. The appearance of new drugs does not prolong the survival of these patients. Purpose: To observe the survival time of patients with advanced 5~Fu resistant colorectal cancer treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) by retrospective study, and to determine the factor associated with the survival, study the relationship between the type of syndrome an the prognosis. Patients and Method: A retrospective study was performed on 115 patients who was seen at the Department of Clinical Oncology, in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the last 5 years, received TCM or combined treatment of TCM and Western medicine. Evaluate the curative effect of TCM by long-term survival. Gender, Age, treatment of the primary tumor, TNM stage, type of syndrome, course of diseases, numbers of prior chemotherapy regimens, weight before treatment, Karnofsky index, HGB level, CEA, CA19-9, scores of symptoms were analyzed for prognostic significance. Survival was calculated by the method of Kaplan-Meier and compared by log rank test. Multivariate analysis was calculated by the Cox proportional hazard model.Result: Median survival (MS) of all 115 patients was 427 days, 1-year and 3-year survival was 55.91% and 12. 79%, respectively. Thereinto, MS was 1040 vs 325 days, 3-year survival was 40.51% vs 5.79% for stage III and stage IV, respectively. MS of patients received combined treatment of TCM and Western...
