Objectives: To study the therapeutic mechanism of Xinzhi Bimin capsule in allergic rhinitis(AR) .Methods: Ovalbumin sensitized white rat used as animal of AR were taken orally with the capsule of Xinzhi Bimin .At the end of treatment ,the differences in the behavior science were observed ; the change of the nasal mucosa secretion were inspected cross-reference after build model; IL-2,IL-4mRNA in the spleen were used to do revers transcriptive polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR ). Results: The behavior science score of model group (7.4±0.97)was higher than the experimental group (1.3±0.48),positive control group (2.9±0.56)and normal control group (0.8 + 0.63) (P<0. 01). The nasal mucosa secretion were demonstrated that all of the rats have none acidophil before building model but they have abundance acidophil after building model 10 days except the normal control group.Compared with the normal control group ,IL-2mRNA in the spleen were down-regulated in the model group(P< 0.01) and IL-4mRNA was up-regulated(P< 0.05).The mean expression level of IL-2 mRNA in the experimental group were higher significantly than the model group (P<0. 01),and that of IL-4 mRNA was lower evidently (P<0. 05), while mean expression level of IL-2 mRNA in the positive control group were higher distinct than the model group(P< 0.01),but that of IL-4 mRNA inthe positive control group was not significant compared with the model group (P>0.05) .Conclusions: The expressions of IL-4mRNA is up-regulated and that of IL-2mRNA is down-regulated in the spleen of allergic rhinitis rat. The capsule of Xinzhi Bimin are suggested to bechanged the excursion of Th1 and Th2, by means of regulating the expression of IL-2mRNA and IL-4mRNA. The result suggests that the capsule of Xinzhi Bimin was a selective and effective Chinese herbal to treat the allergic rhinitis.
