Objective:Via observing the level of serum interleukin-12(IL-12) and interleukin-27(IL-27) in the patients with allergic rhinitis who were treated or untreated by immunotherapy, analyzing the relationship between IL-12 and IL-27 expression level, to explore role of interleukin-12 and interleukin-27 in the pathogenesis and treatment of allergic rhinitis.Method:Twenty patients with allergic rhinitis, who were underwent immunotherapy with O Rogge Desensitization over two years, were assigned as immunotherapy group. Twenty patients with allergic rhinitis who were untreated with immunotherapy were assigned as untreated group. Twenty healthy people without allergic diseases were chosen as control. All of them had not accepted steroids in two weeks before the investigation. The differences of the gender and age among three groups were no statistically significant. The symptom and sign scores of untreated group and treated group were recorded. The serum interleukin-12 and interleukin-27 were measured by ELISA. The data were analyzed by SPSS 16.0 software.Result:1.The symptom and sign scores of untreated group were higher than that of the immunotherapy group,9.80±1.98 versus 6.95±1.19. There was statistically difference between the two groups (P<0.05).2.The level of IL-12 in serum:the concentrations of IL-12 in untreated group (111.82±41.32 pg/ml) and immunotherapy group(163.78±51.76 pg/ml) were lower than the control group (207.28±73.90pg/ml). There were statistically differences among the three groups (P<0.05).3. The level of IL-27 in serum:the concentrations of IL-27 in untreated group (287.72±107.97 pg/ml) and immunotherapy group (403.85±155.59 pg/ml) were obviously lower than the normal group (622.65±237.87pg/ml).There were statistically significant differences among the three groups (P<0.05).4. The relativity between the level of IL-12 and IL-27:there was a positive correlation between the IL-12 and IL-27 level (r= 0.343).Conclusion:1.The serum levels of IL-12 and IL-27 of the patients with allergic rhinitis were significantly lower than that of the normal control, implying that IL-12 and IL-27 might play roles in the pathogenesis of the allergic rhinitis.2. The serum levels of IL-12 and IL-27 in the patients with markedly symptom and sign improvements by immunotherapy were significantly higher than in the untreated patients, indicating that both IL-12 and IL-27 may play immune regulating role in the immunotherapy of the allergic rhinitis.3. The positive correlation between IL-27 and IL-12 demonstrates that IL-27 may play a similar role in the pathogenesis of the allergic rhinitis, and IL-27 can be considered as a new target in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.
