| [Objective] To observe the effect of IFN-α on the inhibition of schistosomiasis japonica hepatic fibrosis in mice and the degree of it. To look for a kind of interferons which has better effect and is in a low price to lighten the economic burden of patients, by comparing with the IFN-γ which is well known that it has a affirmative curative effect on hepatic fibrosis. To acquire experimental data to treat this disease with IFN-α in China at the first time.[Methods] 100 mature male IcR strain mice were randomly divided into 5 equal groups:A, B, C, D and E. A was the untreated control group. Each mouse in group B, C, D and E was infected with 20±2 cercariae of Wan'e strain S. japonicum on Day one via abdominal skin respectively. 10 weeks later, 10 mice drawn out randomly from group A and 20 mice in group B were weighted and killed to validate whether hepatic fibrosis animal models had been successfully made or not. The remaining infected mice were treated with praziquantel(PZQ)(100mg·kg-1 body weight, one-off, gavage) to kill adult worms. Then, mice in group C, D, E were treated with IFN-α, IFN-γ and 0.9% liquor of sodium chloride respectively. After 8 weeks, liver tissue samples of all mice were sectioned and stained with HE and van Gieson(VG) to measure the mean size of egg granulomas and assess the collagen deposited in animal's livers, and the semi-quantitative score scheme(SSS) of chronic hepatitis and liver fibrosis was also used to evaluate curable effects of IFN-α and IFN-γ.[Results] Murine body weights had no statistically significant differences among all groups.
