| Dental caries is fundamentally a microbial disease,which involves the hard tissue of teeth.The prevention of dental caries have been extensively studied worldwide, however none of the existed preventive methods of dental caries is exclusive.Natural medicine is becomeing a hot field of anticaries research in recent years. Our team was the first in the world to carry out a series of research about Chinese natural medicine dealing with dental caries.In our previous study, we find out the 95% ethanolic extract of Galla Chinesis(GCE) and the 30% ethanolic extract of Galla Chinesis (GCE-B) have significant anticaries effects in vitro and in biofilm model. Furthermore, we will evaluate the efficacy of GCE and GCE-B in animal models.Caries animal model is a kind of animal or materials which is established in the caries research and has the imitation appearances of human caries. Different from the artificial mouths, animal model has the whole salivary secretion, individual immune defense,and real clearance of medicine, that is, it provides a true bioenvironment to simulate human caries. The experiment conditions of animal model could be controlled precisely, and it avoids the restrictions of ethics or laws. All of the above add the comparability of the experiments in evaluating anticaries efficacy and it has been certified as a truthful, objective and scientific method to assess new anticaries medicines.
