| Objective: To explore the relationship between angiotensinogen(AGT) gene M235T polymorphism and cerebral infarction(CI) in young and middle-aged adults.Method: M235T polymorphism of AGT gene from peripheral blood leukocytes was examined in 58 noninfarct controls and 89 cases of CI(of the total 27 cases with and 62 cases without essential hypertension(EH) and /or diabetes mellitus(DM),coronary heart disease(CHD)) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).Results: The frequencies of AGT gene T235 allele and 235TT genetype were 79.8% and 64.5% respectively among CI (without EH and /or DM,CHD) which were little higher than those of the control group(73.28% and 55.17% respectively). There were no statistical difference between them(χ2=1.443,P=0.230;χ2=1.090,P=0.296). The frequencies of AGT gene T235 allele and 235TT genetype were 87.0% and 13.0% respectively among CI(with EH and /or DM,CHD) which were significantly higher than those of the control group (χ2=4.020,P=0.045;χ2=4.011,P=0.045). The frequencies of AGT gene T235 allele and 235TT genetype among CI(with EH and /or DM,CHD) compared with those among CI(without EH and /or DM,CHD),there were no statistical difference between them(χ2=1.322,P=0.250;χ2=1.534, P=0.215).The frequency comparisons of 235MT genetype and 235MM genetype were no statistical difference in three groups(P>0.05).Conclusions: There might be no association between AGT gene M235T polymorphism and CI(without EH and /or DM,CHD) in young and middle-aged adults of Han population in Shanxi of China. The AGT gene M235T polymorphism might be associated with the increased risk of CI(with EH and /or DM,CHD) in the population. |
