Traumatic brain edema, like freezing brain edema,is vascular brain edema in early stage. There are many theories about its mechanism .Recently,it is found that endothelin (ET) have close relation with traumatic brain edema. Many factors can cause the content of ET to increase and ET can cause traumatic brain edema through certain mechanisms. The main pathophysiologic changes of traumatic brain edema involve microcirculation disorder after brain injury which lead to the increase of blood vessel permeability and much liquid of blood permeate into extrocellular space which lead to brain edema. The pathological manifestation involves that the volume and weight of brain is increased, the brain tissue become porous, the space around cell and blood vessel is enlarged. The treatment of traumatic brain edema in western medicine is diminishing the brain volume by removing surplus water in extrovascular space. But in traditional Chinese medicine the treatment is increasing blood flow by relieving vascular spasm and protecting vascular endothelial cell to improve microcirculation. We want to evaluate the influence of using danshen root, safflower, Panax pseudo-ginseng on the content of ET and pathological manifestation in rats with freezing brain edema by using traditional Chinese treatment on the basis of Western medicine treatment to provide the theoretical and experimental proof of the treatment to traumatic brain edema.Objective:1. To measure the plasma endothelin(ET) of cold induced brain...
