Objective: To evaluate the protective effects of edaravone on myocardial ischemic and reperfusion injury in patients undergoing valve replacement with cardiopulmonary bypss (CPB).Methods : Thirty patients undergoing valve replacement were randomly divided into two groups, Gl(n=15) received edaravone, G2(n=15) did not receive edaravone? The blood samples were taken at five different intervals, before surgery and 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours and 24 hours after CPB, and to test the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA), CK-MB and cTnI.Results : After CPB plasma concentration of cTnI and CK-MB increased in both groups, and it was much higher in G2(P<0.05). The level of MDA increased in two groups with more marked elevation in control group (P<0.05). SOD was decreased continuously after aorta - declamping. The changes of SOD in G2 were significantly lower than that in G1.
