Objective Giant cell tumor of bone is a kind of primary malignant tumor. Its pathological characteristics are multinucleated giant cell and some round or ellipse stromal cell. Some materials show that it has a high morbidity in westerners and a low morbidity in Chinese. It has been considered a kind of latent malignant tumor of bone after its biological character has been known much than ever. Relapse and canceration tendency are the most important questiones during its clinical therapy.Clinical researches show that it has a very important significance for the method of therapy to know the occurrence and growth of giant cell tumor of bone in gene and cytokine level. The genesis of giant cell tumor of bone is a progression with many steps and phases and its mechanism is rather complex. Researches have shown that many cytokines are involved in it.Heat shock protein 70(HSP70) is a kind of high conservation protein molecule and has important physiological function. It exists in cell of biology widely and is expressed in emergency condition. It has important function during the occurrence, growth, differentiation and genetic transcription of cell. The major function of hsp70 is to protect the essential protein which can sustain vital movement of cell in emergency condition. It can also used as a kind of tumor marker and play a part in tumor immunity. The expressions were analyzed by immunchistochemical method to investigate the roles of hsp70 in development and progression and prognosis of giant cell tumor of bone, which can used as a theory to guide the clinical diagnosis and therapy of giant cell tumor of bone.
