Objective:Obesity is a kind of chronic disease with excessive fat and abnormal distribution inside body due to the disorder of the balance between body controlling fat and energy metabolism, and it is the result of genetic and environment factors. With the development of economy, enhancement of living standard, changes of diet structure and decrease of physical labor, the morbidity rate of obesity grows with each passing day, and it has become a worldwide epidemic disease with rapid growth. It not only can cause psychological disturbance, but also may be the dangerous factor of many kinds of metabolic disorder syndromes. The risk ratios of obesity person in sudden death, acute cerebral accident, coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure are 2.8, 2.0, 1.5 and 1.9 times of those of not-fat person respectively. In addition, obesity is easy to be accompanied with diabetes, asthma, hyperuricemia, gout, disease of biliary tract, osteoarthrosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome, etc. Apart from this, there are sleep apnea syndrome, fatty liver, some malignant tumors, menstrual disorder and sexual disturbance, etc. All of these obesity-related diseases severely threaten the health and lives of patients with obesity, which make the living quality of patients decline, and expectancy life shorten. Therefore, the active treatment of obesity is a very important topic at present and for the future. One of the characteristics of acupuncture is that it has the function of two-way regulation, i. e. when human body is in the state of disturbance, the body may return to the balanced condition by puncturing some points to regulate Yin and Yang, or reduce and replenish. It means acupuncture can make the hyperfunction of body change to normal condition, and also hypofunction of body to normal condition. This is the so-called change of the excess and decline of Yin or Yang to "equilibrium" in traditional Chinese medicine. The function of making the completely different pathological state back to the normal physiological state is called the two-way regulation function of acupuncture. However, the accomplishment of two-way function not only depends on the condition of body function, but also lies on the characteristics of points, compatibility of points and manipulations, etc. Points can also enhance their effects after compatibility, just like the herbs in formulas to play their synthetic action by the combination of principal, adjuvant, auxiliary and guide ingredients. The two-way function of replenishing deficiency and reducing excess could be reached by combing points with different characteristics in different differentiations, so as to deal with diseases. However, when several poin(?)s are used together, various stimulations affect the body at the same time, and synthetic effect is produced. Whether this kind of effect keeps the function of each single point? And whether these effects are enhanced or reduced in the end? In other words, whether there is synergism or antagonism among points? This is a complex and difficult question of acupuncture point selection in the clinic. For the past few years, there are many studies of point catgut embedding in treating obesity on the aspect of clinic and experiment, but the similar discussion is seldom to be see(?). In order to observe the effect of different point selection for point catgut embedding on obesity, this topic applied the combination of shu-point and front mu-point to deal with obesity in the clinic, on the base of the theory of TCM and the integration of modern medicine. Weishu, Sanjiaoshu, Shenshu and Dachangshu, etc. (2) Mu-point group: choose Zhangmen, Zhongwan, Shimen, Tianshu and Guanyuan, etc. (3) Combination of shu-point and mu-point group: select Zhangmen, Zhongwan, Shimen, Tianshu and Guanyuan, etc. And also accompany with Pishu, Weishu, Sanjiaoshu, Shenshu and Dachangshu. There are three groups, and each group contains 30 cases. Point catgut embedding was used to deal with obesity about once every 10-15 days, and three times forms one course. Observe the effects at the end of first and third courses, and then compare the effects. The changes of body weight, body mass index (BMI), waistline, hip line and waist-to-hip ratio were observed to verify the effects. Results:Comparison in group: The comparison around three groups at each obese target after treatment, use the t examination, the P value is smaller than 0.05, therefore three groups existence difference in statistics at each target, they has statistics significance.Comparison with groups: The comparison of the body weight BMI and the waist buttocks ratio contrast in three groups were difference, the P value is bigger than 0.05, they have no statistics difference. But the comparison of waists and buttocks, the P value is smaller than 0.05, therefore three groups have the obvious difference in statistics on the waist and buttocks magnitude. In the change of waist, and buttocks magnitude,â…¢group compares withâ… group orâ…¡group, the P value is smaller than 0.05, Explainedâ…¢group in the change waist, buttocks magnitude has statistics significance withâ… group or withâ…¡group. Conclusions:All of the three groups used catgut embedding have effects on simple obesity, which further confirmed the function of point catgut embedding on simple obesity. The combination of shu-point and front mu-point has better effect than that of simple shu-point treatment and simple front mu-point treatment in the change waist and buttocks magnitude, which implies the combination of shu-point and mu-point have synergism function. It proved the guiding function of traditional acupuncture point selection in treatments.
