Objective: To investigate the expression of bcl-2, MMp-9 and PCNA in pigmented villonodular synovitis and Their Significance. Methods: Immunohistochemical method(SP method) was used to detect the expression of bcl-2, MMP-9 and PCNA in 30 pigmented villonodular synovitis tissues and 20 chronic synovitis or synovium tissues. Results: The expression rate of bcl-2 was significantly higher in PVNS (60.00%) than in chronic synovitis/synovium (10.00%) (P<0.05). The expression of MMP-9 was detected in a greater proportion of PVNS (76.67%) than in chronic synovitis/synovium (15.00%) (P<0.05). The positive expression rate of PCNA was higher in PVNS (66.67%) than in chronic synovitis/synovium (15.00%)(P P<0.05). There was a significantly positive correlation between bcl-2 and MMP-9, and it was the same between the bcl-2 and PCNA expression in PVNS. Conclusion: Bcl-2,MMP-9 and PCNA were over expressed in PVNS. Bcl-2 might play a promotive role to suppress apoptosis and MMP-9 may prompt the erosion of bone and cartilage in PVNS. Bcl-2 and PCNA might play synergetic roles in the process of PVNS.
